Youper is shutting down: what to use instead
If you used Youper, you may have found its page closed. The company's own site says it discontinued its services on September 30, 2026. The site gives no guidance on getting your conversations out, so assume that what you wrote there is not coming back.

What the closure shows
An app that holds your most private writing is also a company, and companies close. The question worth asking is not only whether the next app is good. It is what happens to your words the day it stops.
Questions to ask before you start again
- Where is my history kept: on my device, or only on a server I do not control?
- Can I take it with me in a file I can read, if the app closes or I leave?
- Do I need an account, and what does the app learn about me through it?
- Does it say what it will do with my conversations, in words I can check?
No answer is perfect. These just make the cost of a shutdown visible before it happens.
A question to keep
When a place where I told the truth disappears, what did I actually keep from it?
Epimelea is an app built around the existential school. The therapist in it is a language model, not a person. You can start a conversation without registering, and the archive of your meetings is kept on your device and can be moved with you. That addresses the closure risk, not the question of whether this kind of conversation suits you. Read how it works before you decide, and compare it with the questions above.
